We laugh because it’s funny and we laugh because it’s painful. We laugh because we are embarrassed and we laugh because we are embarrassing. We laugh because the truth is a fiction and fiction may be a humorous reality difficult to bear. We laugh because a stereotype is not politically correct and because what is now accepted speech is sometimes a ridiculous veneer. We laugh because we are surprised by the twist or by the misdirection and often we are surprised that we laughed.
We laugh because it’s silly or so true or so biting.
And when we laugh we heal, we find perspective and we relegate events and situations to their proper place. We laugh so that we do not have to take everything so seriously and miss all the fun.
You may laugh if you are so inclined. And, you may add your own punch line if you please.
